The Differences between Americans and Koreans

I met my new students today.  We started an impromptu discussion of the differences between Americans and Koreans.  Some of the highlights that they mentioned were:

Americans can own guns.
Americans show emotions and speak with their hands.
Americans talk to random strangers.

I couldn't stop laughing inside my head because it sounded like they were describing me.

KOOLAID!

I made a giant batch of Black Cherry Koolaid last night.  I even added some sliced maraschino cherries to it for a little extra something.  I've also found two great uses for it.  Last night for dessert I mixed it with some Coca-Cola and some Jack Daniels and it was spectacular.  And then this morning I mixed it with Sprite and it was a refreshing post-run treat for the subway ride into work.

Numerous students were snapping phone pics after the ceremony.  I made sure to get them to email them to me.

I was able to only miss one student that was sitting in front of me.  This picture is crazy because it makes this room look much larger than it actually is.

Graduation Day

Today was graduation day.  I nailed my speech by opening with a George Bernard Shaw quote.   Then we went with the students for a nice 3 hour lunch.

My last final for this term. Writing.

The students hard at work writing their final essays for this class.  This group of students I had twice this session.  I had them at the beginning of every day and at the end of every day.  You can imagine how that went some days.

My First Writing Class Final

This class full of big ex-army guys always makes me feel like I should drink Muscle Milk or at least start a softball team.  The only problem is with the size of most of these guys crammed in this tiny room at times it can be hard to wander around helping people with only a couple of inches between a chairback and the wall.

Last Class, Finals Tomorrow, Correct Shoes on

Today was the last class of this session with these students.  I ended each of the classes by giving them advice on how to make the most of their US university experiences and just suggestions on how to make their work easier for them (basically advice based on doing it the wrong way for the first couple of years in college for me).  Tomorrow they have finals and then on Friday there's a short ceremony.  Today after my writing class that has all boys in it, each of these guys came up and shook my hand at the end of class.  It was a very cool moment. 

 

 

This also means that not that I will be a little more sane the five blog posts that are in draft form will finally get finished and posted to overwhelm the readers.
