I definitely appreciate the frequent readers and the feedback that I get on my blog. I don't really write it for notoriety, but rather to entertain and not feel so distant from the Western World. An occasional headshake in disbelief or an actual laugh out loud are added bonuses. Please continue to enjoy.

Acupuncture Yesterday

So yesterday's acupuncture appointment was a lot of fun. Haha. I know that sounds weird, but I was laughing so hard during most of it that it was the perfect relaxation.

So when I went there I noticed the only pairs of shoes in the sandal rack was employee shoes.  I've never been there before when I was the only patient.  It was quiet and evidentally too quiet for the employees because most of the tjme they were just sitting talking with me.  Luckily I brought my tablet so that made conversing easier.

At one point we all started laughing hard because one of the older assistants was talking and talking really fast and then pitched it higher at the end like you do with a question and she even did the facial movement that indicatdd she expected some sort of confirming response.  I was like "sure" and just laughter erupted.

We used common terms to talk about the absence of patients and talked about tsunamis of customers on some days.   They also don't have appointments or reservations as they're known at most Korean offices.

One of the other funnier points was when they were putting the muscle rub on my knees they were asking about the orange marker on my legs.  They were like students?" with a drawing motion.  I said no, and pointed to myself.  They looked confused so I explained and pointed to the spots and said pain or hurts in Korean.  They were like "sign pen?"  Which is what Koreans call markers and we all started laughing so hard. It made me think of mom marking which one of dad's hips to get done during surgery.

Then I had a couple brief sentences typed and translated ahead of time on my tablet.  One of the ones that the doctor needed clarification on one where I talked about having tenderness during runs.  Evidentally it was translated as a lovjng tenderness instead of like a muscle tenderness.  Once again laughter erupted.  All in all it was a good day and the relaxation that it brought was definitely needed and much appreciated.

Finally an Update

OK they much awaited for and much needed update. Sorry for the big gap. This first part will be the August update and then just a little of September.

One Sunday in the beginning of August, we took a work trip to escape as a group to a river up the ways. With lots of food to barbeque and enough beer we were set. I was totally stoked that Kevin, one of the guys that I work with, brought his two daughters, one of which is a student of mine, because it really turned it into a family function. It reminded me a lot of the family reunion in Gulfport and any big weekend in Nac, the perfect blend of fun, beer, water, and children's laughter. We had a blast and made sure to top it off with pizza when we got home.

Everyone on the bus.

Base camp.

Mr. Bae, Me and Walter with our beers and our feet in the water.

Sara and me.

Me and the two ladies that kept yelling at us for diving.  It didn't stop us, we just waited until they took bathroom breaks.

Me and Walter.

Who has two thumbs and had fun today?  This guy!!!

I talked the parking guy into letting me play with his directing stick.  He let me take a picture, but he  insisted that I wasn't allowed to park a car.

At the end of the term we had to say goodbye to Law, who was filling in for some gaps on our staff for the end of the summer term. I made a nice batch of chili for his goodbye party at work, then we topped it off with bowling. We had a blast at the alley and decided that we didn't want the night to end and so we went for a 1am soup run.

Rachel's having fun and give's the big thumbs up next to Law.

Me and Kevin.

The gang.

Mmmm mushrooms, kimchi and soup.

Post soup restaurant wrestling.

Yes 3 people can spoon together.

The new term has started. I have a nice blend of classes and I've been trying some new methods with these students for motivation and classroom management. I've seen some progress. I used to right all my grades down last term before I put them into the computer, but I used scratch paper. So if it didn't get put in within a week then there was usually a problem. This term I bought these basic spirals for each class and I've been tracking the progress of each student and with how the classes are going in each one. It takes a little extra work, but I saw the benefit last week when a parent visited and I opened the book and could point to quiz grades, homework completion and how exactly the student was doing. The other plus side was the parent brought me this awesome cheese bread doughnut thing. It was DELICIOUS!!!

Mmmm so delicious.  Cheddar cheese on the outside and there was a little mozzarella on the inside.
